Urban Augmented Reality (UAR) Amsterdam released

UAR Amsterdam has been launched. After the city of Rotterdam finally the Dutch capital can be viewed in 3d on your smartphone. Of course the city is already there to see in 3d, that’s why the UAR-app shows buildings which aren’t there: buildings from the past, the future and an alternative reality.

The free app has been created by the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAi) and released together with the Architecture centre in Amsterdam (ARCAM). The application isn’t just a program on your phone, but it’s a live connection to the NAi and gives an extended impression of the city around you. Especially the buildings which have been added in 3d, around 25, really add to your understanding of your city.

You can walk around in the old demolished stadium of soccer-club Ajax, or check out the new filmmuseum. Amsterdam is the second city after Rotterdam which has been added to UAR. Next year both The Hague and Utrecht will be added. DPI Animation House, supplier of all 3d-content, works in partnership with the NAi and Layar and in10 communication to to realize the UAR application.

You can download the app for Apple and Android or view UAR through the layar browser.
