Object2VR new feature

This article is out of date. Check out the script here. And a recent tutorial here.

After a few requests I’ve implemented a new feature in the sphere-render script I’ve made. It’ now possible to render a hemisphere as well, besides the full sphere. It’s really quite simple. Just click the “Hemisphere” option in the script and the camera will be animated only in the top hemisphere. The rest of the workflow is very much the same.

This is a hemispherical view of my teapots

Use this option to create a hemisphere just like the one above

This is the trajectory of the animated camera showing the hemisphere

Hi Klass.
I tested the new script, very good, but it creates the hemisphere rotated 90 degrees. Tested in max2009 and max 201.

Hey, that’s weird. I’ve added a screenshot of the animated camera in the post. That’s the kind of hemisphere I’m talking about. This one’s from max 2010. Max 2008 acts the same.

hm, I can’t really explain that. Did you perhaps modify the script to create a different type of camera? In my tests the transformations only work properly with a free-camera. Apart from that, I have no idea how to reproduce your situation.

Hi. Today I have tested in another 4 PC, and the problems continues. The hemisphere is created rotated 90 dregrees. I ask you to test in other PCs, please. Bye

Another thing that I see, the camera, it comes reversed, note in my printscreen. At the option of full sphere, the camera comes positioned at the top and the at the first frame of time line.

Banging my head! I’ve never exported an image sequence ….. I’ve always just exported a bunch of jpgs. I discovered that you need the folder containing the jpgs to just have the jpgs… and nothing else. Can you give me some insight on how to save an image sequence, where to store it, and how to use it (in combination with the jpgs. Screen captures would be great!. Thanks in advance. Also, Thanks so much for making this script. !!!!!! One last thing. What are you finding are the optimal Column/Row settings to make the best Object VR. Sphere and Hemisphere.

Hi Nitin,
I’ve used vray cameras before by attaching a vraycam to the default camera. Just make the vraycam a child of the generated camera. That’s generally the easiest thing to do.

Hi Klaas,

Only just realised you had replied šŸ™‚

Here is my attempt – sorry for the website – it has yet to be developed;

http://www.3dvisuals.co.uk/clients/vpbs/objectvr.html

Klaas, I had to reinstall all my software on my new machine, and reinstalled your script – but I can’t remember how to access it once I restart Max ? (I looked in the Customize dialog box but it wasn’t there….)

I was hoping I could set up a toolbar button or something like that ?

Please could you guide me – where to find it etc ?

Kindest regards,

Jez

Hi Jez, that looks awesome. Nice to see the results of this script.
There’s not really an installer or a built in macroscript. To add it to a toolbar yourself you can do the following:
open the script in a script editor window in 3dsMax
select all the code in the window
drag the code to a toolbar
Max will automatically create a button for you
